Story time:<\/p>\n

So I started the year in \u201cAustralia\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026and in the last \u201c7\u201d weeks since coming home, I\u2019ve moved house… successfully launched Accelerator 3.0<\/strong> (with 58 new students in total joining the 6 week program)\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026flew from London to San Diego to attend a 3 day marketing conference\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026drove from San Diego to Anaheim to attend the 3 day APTA CSM conference (and take in some Disney)\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026and, as I write this email to you now, I\u2019m in Myrtle Beach (SC) – for a 3 day Mastermind Event.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been an epic<\/strong> few weeks.<\/p>\n

More to come, too.<\/p>\n

Next week we fly to Phoenix before going back to San Diego and on to Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re having the time of our lives\u2026<\/p>\n

My two year old son \u201cHarry\u201d travels with me and while his Daddy improves his business education, right now he\u2019s at California Adventure land with his Mother, having a LOT of fun in the sun.<\/p>\n

And while all this goes on\u2026<\/p>\n

Guess what is running nicely in the back ground, some 6,000 miles away\u2026<\/p>\n

That\u2019s right\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Paul Gough Physio Rooms\u201d. <\/a><\/p>\n

The 14 staff I employ back there continue to run the systems I set in place about 2 years ago when I DECIDED I wanted to live this life IN-SPITE of the challenges our industry faces.<\/p>\n

People tell me all the time that I have a great life.<\/p>\n

They look surprised when I tell them:<\/p>\n

\u201cI know, <\/strong><\/em>
\nI designed it\u201d.<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n

See, most people won’t, or can’t accept that everything that happens to them today is because of the decisions they\u2019ve made in the past.<\/p>\n

“If you want to know what your decisions were in the past, look at your business today”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

AND:<\/p>\n

“If you want to know what your business will be like in the future, look at your decisions today”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s that simple.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more\u2026.<\/p>\n

Having spent 3 full days with 14,000 other PT\u2019s last week, I\u2019m even more certain of this:<\/p>\n

There\u2019s NEVER been a better time for you to be running a PT business. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The amount of negativity, resentment and skepticism about the future of the PT industry is making it easier for you and I to be successful…<\/p>\n

While they all whine, bitch and moan about situations they can\u2019t control\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026we can make decisions about things that we can!<\/p>\n

Like, WHO<\/strong> we\u2019ll even let into our clinics.<\/p>\n

The \u201cold-school\u201d PT business owner thinks they have to accept any old patient who calls\u2026<\/p>\n

It\u2019s as if… \u201cwe got a new one – lets cash the cheque, so we can eat\u201d!<\/p>\n

In my humble opinion, continuing to rely upon referrals from doctors is one of the big reasons the PT industry is in such a mess.<\/p>\n

Think about what you REALLY get with referrals from doctors:<\/strong><\/p>\n

* Some \u201cgood\u201d patients, some not so good.<\/p>\n

* Some aged \u201c21\u201d, some aged \u201c61\u201d.<\/p>\n

* Some with \u201cwrist pain\u201d, some with \u201cankle pain\u201d, some with “back pain”<\/p>\n

* Some with $50 co-pay, some with $5000 deductibles.<\/p>\n

* Some knowing what a PT does\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026but nearly all having NO CLUE and are only there just because their doctor said so.<\/p>\n

With no control over who is being referred…<\/p>\n

…is it any wonder that most PT clinics are a mess with the un-predictability and frustration at dealing with patients who don\u2019t appear to see the value of a 12 session plan – and don\u2019t want to part with their co-pay?\u2026<\/p>\n

So the moral of todays story:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The ONLY way you can grow and scale a business – on your terms, to live the life YOU want – is when YOU decide WHO it is you want to work with.<\/p>\n

Figure that out, and the rest becomes a lot easier.<\/p>\n

My \u201c58\u201d new Accelerator 3.0 students have been doing it all week.<\/p>\n
