Back at my desk today.<\/p>\n

After 6 weeks of travelling around the US with my family in \u201ctow\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026I\u2019m back in my home town for a couple of weeks to catch up with some friends and family and of course, check on my PT business.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll make the changes and necessary improvements that\u2019ll let me continue to be an \u201cabsent\u201d owner so that I can take off to Australia for a month or so over Christmas – to spend some time with my younger brother who lives out there.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s great to be back at work.<\/p>\n

\"Arrived<\/a><\/p>\n

I love my business.<\/p>\n

And, I love my staff.<\/p>\n

(Most of the time!)<\/p>\n

But occasionally one or two of my \u201cteam\u201d get to the point where they just can\u2019t keep up with the progress that the rest of us are making.<\/p>\n

And, usually what happens is when I come back from a long time away from the clinic, those members of staff EXPOSE themselves.<\/p>\n

It takes me about a week to work out whose lagging Vs whose prospering – and ultimately, who\u2019s got to go so that we can make more progress.<\/p>\n

See, I happen to KNOW for sure that spending time away from your practice, is, well, good for it, in the LONG RUN!<\/p>\n

As an Owner, the WORST thing that you can do is to be in there at the desk or in that treatment room, all day long, every day.<\/p>\n

You can easily get \u201clost\u201d amidst all of the clutter and chaos that your staff like to ADD to your life.<\/p>\n

But when you\u2019re away from your practice, you\u2019re able to think more clearly\u2026<\/p>\n

Invent new, more and better ways of doing things.<\/p>\n

Refine the systems.<\/p>\n

Improve the process\u2019s.<\/p>\n

And, ultimately, actually put your staff to the test and see if they\u2019re running the systems like you asked – so that you\u2018re making the profit you need to live the life you want.<\/p>\n

Because it\u2019s NOT the staff who run a \u201cbusiness\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026it\u2019s not even you that runs the business.<\/p>\n

No\u2026 it\u2019s the systems that you put in place that are run by the people you hire, that run the business.<\/p>\n

(It\u2019s how it SHOULD work anyways).<\/p>\n

Which means that if and when you land back at your desk and one of your NEWEST staff members announces that \u201cshe\u2019s pregnant\u201d (like what happened to me)\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026it\u2019s ok!<\/p>\n

Because when the time is right, someone else can step in to run the system for you in her absence.<\/p>\n

Business is really simple.<\/p>\n

Spend some time NOW creating the systems that\u2019ll free up more of your time to do and enjoy the things that you REALLY want to do in your life\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026which I doubt very much is prescribe exercise plans or massage soft tissue for the rest of your days.<\/p>\n

Usually, when I speak to business owners just starting out on their journey, they will often tell me they have NO desire to ever want to stop treating patients.<\/p>\n

And my answer is always the same:<\/p>\n

\u201cTreating patients is nice – and it\u2019s very rewarding.<\/p>\n

But it ain\u2019t half as nice as getting on an aeroplane with my family and knowing I can be anywhere I like, for as long as I like\u2026 and that my business is the thing that\u2019s funding it all for me\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u2026Could it be an industry wide issue that holds a lot of PT\u2019s back simply because not many they know of have ever figured out how to actually create such a lifestyle boosting business??<\/p>\n

Maybe.<\/p>\n

Who knows.<\/p>\n
