As most PT\u2019s worry about doctors getting harder to reach, what\u2019s even more worrisome is the changing behaviour of the average consumer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Think about it\u2026<\/p>\n

The average consumer (your patient) these days is more educated and has more choices and access to information than ever.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

And is therefore MORE resistant to being told what to do.<\/p>\n

Even by doctors.<\/p>\n

And as much as we LOVE to assume that a referral from a doctor = a \u201chappy to arrive and pay\u201d new patient at our clinics, the reality is those days are gone, too.<\/p>\n

The consumer is used to having choices.<\/p>\n

They WANT choices.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And every time YOU push them over to \u201cYelp\u201d to ask them for a review of your clinic, you remind them that THEY are now the ones who hold the power.<\/p>\n

And, that they have choices.<\/p>\n

Of which one of them is to say \u201cno\u201d<\/strong> to the doctor\u2019s recommendation of going to your PT clinic.<\/p>\n

Now some owners will stubbornly refuse to accept this.<\/p>\n

And will continue to run faster or try harder at begging more doctors for more referrals.<\/p>\n

But here\u2019s the thing\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

I put it to you that the REAL danger you face<\/strong> is not from the doctors playing hide \u2019n seek from you or your fancy newsletters.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the smaller, new kid on the block PT owner<\/strong> who ISN\u2019T indoctrinated in the old school ways of running a PT business.<\/p>\n

The equivalent of \u201c2 kids in a garage\u201d in the 70\u2019s trying to re-invent the entire computer industry – and succeeding (\u2026Jobs and Wozniack).<\/p>\n

This new breed of PT owner who knows he has to be FOR someone.<\/p>\n

He has to look at how he answers the phone to patients\u2026<\/p>\n

To actually take the time to CONNECT with and ENGAGE with\u2026<\/p>\n

Spending AT LEAST twenty minutes on the phone at the first point of contact just to ensure a connection is made and that compliance is more likely\u2026<\/p>\n

His adverts?<\/strong><\/p>\n

They have to resonate with a pretty irate and frightened, not to mention \u201cskeptical\u201d consumer – and motivate enough of them to pick up the phone BEFORE they visit their doctor.<\/p>\n

His evaluation techniques?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s now a well rehearsed, fully scripted routine that puts value alignment at the front and centre of the entire session\u2026<\/p>\n

His ability to \u201cup-sell\u201d once the initial care plan is over??<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s using automated systems and procedures to effortlessly connect with his patients DURING treatment, so that the transition to \u201cmonthly massage\u201d programs is, of course, the logical next thing to do.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s keeping in touch with that new patient for life, making use of email marketing and Social Media\u2026<\/p>\n

And why wouldn\u2019t he? It\u2019s now easier than ever.<\/p>\n

To sum up todays lesson:<\/span><\/p>\n

I put it to you that the answers to the future success of your PT clinic are NOT likely to be found in \u201chow can I get more referrals from doctors?\u201d<\/p>\n

But in:<\/p>\n

\u201cHow can I get ahead of \u2026 get entirely separated from\u2026 sign on and profit from\u2026 the new and very creative ways to acquire customers for life?\u201d<\/p>\n
