So I spent Memorial weekend in the wonderful city of \u201cSan Francisco\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n

I was there to meet up with a PT Owner to talk about turbo charging his ability to acquire new patients (marketing) <\/p>\n

-AND-<\/p>\n

Ensure that each one of those new patients is more compliant and follows through on his entire prescription of care (sales). <\/p>\n

But I also used the trip as a mini-vacation and took my family to see the sights: <\/p>\n

Places like \u201calcatraz\u201d, \u201cSaucalito\u201d, Pier 39, Washington Square and a whole host of other places that I\u2019d only ever previously seen in the movies. <\/p>\n

The shops were great too\u2026<\/p>\n

My girlfriend Natalie had a blast and my son Harry loved the Disney Store located downtown.<\/p>\n

And while there, we got presented with a number of \u201coffers\u201d from many different retailers\u2026 mainly, \u201copportunities\u201d to \u201ctry\u201d or \u201csample\u201d things for \u201cfree\u201d. <\/p>\n

(Before we bought).<\/p>\n

And it struck me just how in-effective a \u201cFree trial\u201d can be. <\/p>\n

An example:<\/p>\n

There was this one store who had a pleasant young girl out side of their doors offering a free trial of some new skin care cream. <\/p>\n

At least that\u2019s what we assumed it was because all she said to us was \u201cdo you want a free trial\u201d?<\/p>\n

(\u201dof what\u201d, we both thought). <\/p>\n

Now had this girl said something like:<\/p>\n

\u201cMadam, would you like a free sample of the most amazing new skin care product that could revitalise your appearance in less than 5 minutes\u2026?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u2026then \u201cNatalie\u201d (my girlfriend) might have paid some attention. <\/p>\n

Asked another question\u2026<\/p>\n

Maybe even walked inside the store for the free trial.<\/p>\n

(Then “bought” something!)<\/p>\n

Why? <\/p>\n

Because she\u2019d have been in no doubt whatsoever of the benefit to taking the free trial of the skin care cream in exchange for giving up 10 minutes of her time. <\/p>\n

And it\u2019s a lot like that when advertising a \u201cfree consultation\u201d at your PT clinic. <\/p>\n

Often, the person who you\u2019re trying to attract to your clinic needs to know WHY he or she should take it. <\/p>\n

It might be free\u2026<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s still a TIME cost involved.<\/p>\n

Free is often very over used – to the point it has become completely devalued and hard to give away. <\/p>\n

Meaning that if someone lands on your website today and sees a sign for a \u201cfree consultation\u201d\u2026 there\u2019s a very good chance they\u2019ll completely ignore it, question it\u2019s value or assume that there\u2019s a catch! <\/p>\n

Better to load your \u201cfree consultation\u201d with a benefit and a compelling reason why (they should try it). <\/p>\n

Give it a new name\u2026<\/p>\n

A, \u201cFind Out What\u2019s Wrong Free First session\u201d, perhaps? <\/p>\n

See, promising something like a REAL diagnosis in exchange for just thirty minutes of their time is often a good place to start. <\/p>\n

The trick is though, to make sure they have a crystal clear understanding of what\u2019s in it for THEM and why they should attend i.e the benefit at the end (marketing). <\/p>\n

Do that and you\u2019ll book more. <\/p>\n

Continue to ride along the back of \u201cfree\u201d\u2026 and you\u2019ll forever wonder why your google analytics say that 1000 people have visited your website this month but not one person booked from seeing your free offer. <\/p>\n
