Make Regular changes To Your Site And NOT Just One Big, Complete Overhaul<\/h1>\n<p>It&#8217;s tempting to think that the best thing to do is just start the whole thing again, but most times it&#8217;s better to test what\u2019s working and what isn\u2019t on your current site before you build a new one from scratch.<\/p>\n<p>Now, if you\u2019re getting NOTHING in the way of anyone mentioning having found you on Google searches &#8211; or commenting on how helpful your website was in the decision making and self-referral process <em>(the ONLY reason for having a website)<\/em> &#8211; then I agree, it maybe time for a big change&#8230; as a website that isn\u2019t working for you to deliver self-referrals is actually costing you a lot of money and would be worth spending some $$$ on!<\/p>\n<p>But where most clinic owners go wrong is this:<\/p>\n<p>They think they have to build a website from scratch &#8211; which usually takes months (and is painstakingly difficult and expensive to complete), then, when it\u2019s FINALLY created, realise not much has changed in the way of getting more self-referrals.<\/p>\n<p>And what&#8217;s more, by the time the new website is finished, there&#8217;s always the temptation to think it&#8217;s<em> still not good enough<\/em>\u00a0&#8211; made worse when you take a look at someone else\u2019s website that you like better and decide that yours is now \u201cout of date\u201d, or needs more work.<\/p>\n<p>So they start planning ANOTHER website rebuild.<\/p>\n<p>And yet all they change is the &#8220;colours&#8221;, or the fonts and add a few more pretty pictures to make it look like one they \u201clike\u201d and &#8220;think&#8221; works.<\/p>\n<p>But, that\u2019s not the best way to do.<\/p>\n<p>No, you\u2019re much better off making small, but very regular changes to your website after TESTING what is working and finding out what isn\u2019t &#8211; such as your &#8220;enquiry forms&#8221; or pages that you&#8217;re asking for patients to do take action, such as &#8220;contact us&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Use something like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.optimizely.com\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cOptimizely\u201d <\/a>(which I use) or \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/vwo.com\" target=\"_blank\">Visual Website Optimiser<\/a>\u201d, to do this and even track the number of phone calls you get from EACH PAGE of your website, using \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/calltrackingmetrics.com\" target=\"_blank\">call tracking metrics<\/a>\u201d which is the software I use to track it from my own website.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Tip 2.) Turn To &#8220;Direct Response&#8221; Style Pages<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>There\u2019s essentially two different types of websites you could chose from.<\/p>\n<p>One is known as a &#8220;brochure site&#8221; (&#8230;that most web designers will want to build and try to charge you a LOT of $$$), then there\u2019s another other (which actually makes some money and costs a let less) and is called a \u201cDirect Response\u201d style website.<\/p>\n<p>Now, most pt website\u2019s I\u2019ve been asked to critique are \u201cbrochure sites\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing wrong with that &#8211; UNLESS it\u2019s bringing in referrals everyday like clockwork.<\/p>\n<p>(But I suspect, most don\u2019t).<\/p>\n<p>See, the problem with brochure websites is that the OWNER judges his or her website by how nice they look &#8211; and is often guided by a web designer who is CLUELESS (respectfully) about direct response marketing &#8211; or leaves it to another company who designs their website just the same as everyone else who uses their templates too.<\/p>\n<p>And the re-design project is considered a success based upon &#8220;subjective&#8221; things &#8211; like \u201cwhitespace\u201d, \u201cfeel\u201d, how many pretty pictures are up there and even on what it says about the company and the owner of the business on the home page (&#8230;as opposed to testing).<\/p>\n<p>But non of that is going to influence visitors\/new patients on your site to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">take action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Well, let me explain it to you with an analogy from the \u201cdating\u201d world:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Think about going on a first date with a girl or guy you\u2019ve just met\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Would you &#8220;ask for marriage&#8221; when you first hook up?<\/p>\n<p>Course not!<\/p>\n<p>Well, asking people who have JUST arrived on your pt website to &#8220;book an appointment&#8221; with you is a lot like talking about \u201cmarriage\u201d (or having kids) on a first date.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, he or she may look BEAUTIFUL (&#8230;just like many pt websites do) &#8211; but it\u2019s just too big of a leap for anyone to say \u201cyes\u201d on that first date to marriage!<\/p>\n<p>In fact, you\u2019d scare them off so much that they\u2019d never come back.<\/p>\n<p>And the same thing is likely happening the first time someone lands on your website if all you do is give them the option to \u201cbook an appointment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It would be much more likely to lead to a life long and lasting relationship with that patient if you offer to get to know him or her first&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nAnd besides, when it comes to websites (and not date nights!!) it\u2019s often true that \u201cugly\u201d work best &#8211; so there&#8217;s no need for expensive web design costs anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Websites with compelling, emotive copy and REAL reasons to respond are much more profitable &#8211; even if they\u2019re a little &#8220;ugly&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>So that\u2019s one problem\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>And the second biggest problem I see\u00a0<\/strong><strong>with brochure style websites is this:<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They\u2019re all about the clinic and the clinic owner or staff.<\/p>\n<p>And NOT what the clinic can do or who it helps &#8211; which is what the visitor is really looking for.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Back to our dating analogy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How long would the date last (or would you get another one?) if all you spoke about on your first date was \u201cYOU\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>Unlikely!<\/p>\n<p>Now, contrast that with a \u201cDirect Response\u201d style website, and you\u2019ll find that it\u2019s ALL about the VISITOR and what the clinic can do to help them.<\/p>\n<p>(Big difference, massive difference).<\/p>\n<p>Even the \u201cABOUT\u201d page should be written in a way that shows \u201cWHO\u201d the clinic helps and should start with <strong>\u201cWe Help\u2026\u201d<\/strong> and NOT, \u201cWe Are\u2026\u201d, like most do!<\/p>\n<p>Same with the staff profiles: Instead of listing qualifications and hobbies and interests of the pt&#8217;s you employ, why not use this area to say &#8220;he helps people with&#8230;.&#8221;, or &#8220;he is the pt you should choose if you have back pain&#8221;&#8230; etc etc etc.<\/p>\n<p>Even just doing that is much more likely to bring the person looking on your site closer to you &#8211; and more like to book an appointment. What you&#8217;re doing here is magnetically attracting people towards you based on what you can do to help them, not shouting out at them about who you are and how good you are.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For an example of a very profitable direct response website, please click here:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulgoughphysio.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-313 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.ptprofitacademy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Back_Pain___Paul_Gough_Physio_Rooms_-_Darlington_-_Durham_-_Guisborough_-_Hartlepool-300x177.png\" alt=\"Back_Pain___Paul_Gough_Physio_Rooms_-_Darlington_-_Durham_-_Guisborough_-_Hartlepool\" width=\"403\" height=\"238\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ptprofitacademy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Back_Pain___Paul_Gough_Physio_Rooms_-_Darlington_-_Durham_-_Guisborough_-_Hartlepool-300x177.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ptprofitacademy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Back_Pain___Paul_Gough_Physio_Rooms_-_Darlington_-_Durham_-_Guisborough_-_Hartlepool-624x369.png 624w, https:\/\/www.ptprofitacademy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Back_Pain___Paul_Gough_Physio_Rooms_-_Darlington_-_Durham_-_Guisborough_-_Hartlepool.png 1004w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 403px) 100vw, 403px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s my own clinics website<\/strong> &#8211; there&#8217;s lots of testing gone into the pages and buttons and is based upon everything that I learned while studying studying &#8220;Direct Response&#8221; marketing techniques.<\/p>\n<p>Now, what you\u2019ll see is that<strong> on every single page<\/strong>, there\u2019s a compelling reason for the visitor to RESPOND or take action &#8211; and not always just to \u201cbook an appointment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sometimes it&#8217;s the simple things that make the difference, too:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For an example, look at the website and see how I use the words \u201cENQUIRE\u201d (and not \u201cBOOK\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because there\u2019s much LESS commitment to enquire about my services, than to book!<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not saying <em>\u201carrange a date with me\u201d\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>By using the word &#8220;enquire&#8221; I\u2019m giving the visitor the option to find out more about me BEFORE they decide they would like me to take them to the movies or out for a meal!<\/p>\n<h1>Tip 3.) Begin A Relationship By Offering Something Valuable In Exchange For Contact Details (And Follow Up)<\/h1>\n<p>And what you\u2019ll notice about my site is that I\u2019m NOT just asking the person to call me off the back of reading a glowing reference (written by me) saying how good I am, how long I\u2019ve been in business, or, that I pride my self on great customer service and am \u201chighly qualified\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>(Like almost EVERY website does!)<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m all of that &#8211; but would you go for dinner with someone after ONLY seeing their profile on a dating site &#8211; the one that everyone knows is\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">written by them?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Of course not!<\/p>\n<p>But if you\u2019re kind of interested, you\u2019re going to have a few back and forth style emails or SMS messages to see if what they say about them selves seems to be true, and IS what you\u2019re looking for &#8211; before you commit to the date night!<\/p>\n<p>It should be the same &#8220;low risk&#8221; process on your website.<\/p>\n<p>Saying how professional you are, or how many qualifications you\u2019ve got etc etc etc, those types of lines are not going to motivate anyone to book an appointment with you.<\/p>\n<p><em>(And besides &#8211; all your competitors are saying the same thing and have the same qualifications anyway)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The reality is they\u2019re the base line of what people expect these days &#8211; so to shout about it, well, it isn\u2019t really going to give you an edge!<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s much better to use your website to <strong>\u201cbegin a relationship with a visitor\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Back to &#8220;dating&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p>If you meet someone in a bar or online, chances are you\u2019ll offer them your number or email address BEFORE you ask for the date.<\/p>\n<p>Same with your website.<\/p>\n<p>Offer visitors something valuable like a <strong>\u201cfree tips report\u201d <\/strong>(something that looks like this):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ptprofitacademy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/back-pain-291-346.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-289\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ptprofitacademy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/back-pain-291-346-252x300.jpg\" alt=\"Marketing ideas for pt's\" width=\"252\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ptprofitacademy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/back-pain-291-346-252x300.jpg 252w, https:\/\/www.ptprofitacademy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/back-pain-291-346.jpg 291w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 252px) 100vw, 252px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;And which you\u2019re happy to give away <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in exchange for their contact details.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>So that you can then <strong>follow up<\/strong> and explain multiple times over (using emails, direct mail or on the phone&#8230;) all about your pt clinic and how easy it is to self-refer &#8211; which is of course, the number 1 end goal of having a website in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>For an example on how to do that on a pt website (not to pick up dates! lol), go here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulgoughphysio.com\/back-pain\" target=\"_blank\">www.paulgoughphysio.com\/back-pain<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And see how I offer to HELP my new visitor (with back pain) before I ask them for money by booking an appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, on there, I leave a little message saying something like <em>\u201cif your need is urgent, please click here\u201d<\/em> which alerts the small number of visitors whose need is urgent to the fact that they can book an appointment, if they\u2019re in a lot of pain and ready to book now.<\/p>\n<p>(I do have dating analogy for that &#8211; but best not bring it up, lol)!!<\/p>\n<p>The fact is, 99% of the people who visit your website are NOT ready to book now.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re NOT ready to commit to marriage.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re just looking for information and want to get to know you a little better.<\/p>\n<p>Design your website so that you can give it to people and preferably \u00a0in exchange for contact details so that you can have repeated attempts at getting your message across.<\/p>\n<p>Do that, and you\u2019ll soon see that &#8220;self-referrals&#8221; from your website will go off the scale as people realise that they like you and trust you for offering to help them FIRST.\u00a0Often that alone is enough to get you noticed above everyone else in town who is immediately asking for the sale &#8211;
