I keep getting patients whose first response is \u201cdo you accept insurance?\u201d. <\/em><\/p>\n

They don\u2019t do their research and look at my website to view that info – if they contact me by phone I give them the private pay talk, ideally I\u2019d like to by-pass that talk\u2026 I want those patients that know they\u2019re getting premier care. <\/em><\/p>\n

I have a few things to say on this\u2026<\/p>\n

And the first is that for most PTs, they\u2019re not actually \u201cattracting\u201d anyone. <\/strong><\/p>\n

What’s really happening is they are at the mercy of the small number of people searching for a PT – looking (and expecting) to find someone who accepts their insurance.<\/p>\n

See, most clinics waking up today are in what I call \u201creactive\u201d mode.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reacting to the people who \u201cstumble\u201d upon their website – the same people who also \u201cstumbled\u201d on the websites of the other 7 PTs in town, who also have a free listing on Google.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s usually nothing different about the websites – maybe the color of the font – and it\u2019s almost impossible to differentiate yourself from the rest, once you\u2019re part of the pack.<\/p>\n

Another way to look at the problem is through the style of play of an “NFL” team:<\/p>\n

PT clinics have existed playing a \u201cdefensive\u201d style of game.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They wait for referrals to arrive, usually from a doctor, a third party referral or a past patient\u2026<\/p>\n

Either way, they are sitting back and waiting for the patient to come to them.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s fine.<\/p>\n

But they come with all sorts of false beliefs about the value and pre-conceived ideas about what they should be getting – and one of them is often a “PT who takes insurance”…<\/p>\n

So the answer is to switch your model to a more \u201cOFFENSIVE\u201d type of game and actively go looking for the type of patients you want.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(That’s what REAL Marketing is).<\/p>\n

We are now essentially \u201crunning at them\u201d – instead of waiting for them to run at us. <\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s much easier to get the ball back when you are already \u201con the move\u201d – wouldn\u2019t you agree?<\/strong><\/p>\n

So in this new game, what we have to do is expose them to information that changes the way they feel about you<\/strong> – BEFORE they call you\u2026<\/p>\n

That means when the \u201cprivate pay\u201d talk comes up – which it has to – it\u2019s more likely to be a successful one because these people already know the true value of what you do.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what a \u201cMarketing Plan\u201d is for.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a nut shell, it is a sustained effort to influence a certain pocket of people and help them feel a certain way about how they view how YOU can solve their problem, better than anyone else.<\/p>\n

And preferably, we need them to see it in a way that no one else has ever presented to them before – and if we can do that, they are happy to pay in cash or out-of-pocket, at any fee you set. <\/strong><\/p>\n

And guess what??<\/p>\n
