As I wrote this to you I was getting ready to set off on my trip to Las Vegas…<\/p>\n

\u2026or, \u201cLost Wages\u201d as SouthWest like to call it! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

But here’s the thing:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve decided not to fly the one hour 5 minute flight and instead, rent a car from Dollar.<\/p>\n

Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, it was a Wednesday – and every Wednesday we \u201cstaff train\u201d\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

So I thought I\u2019d use the time wisely (en-route to the APTA P.P.S Conference) to work with my staff.<\/p>\n

See, I\u2019ve flown two of them over from the UK to attend this event with me\u2026<\/p>\n

And, I know we can spend the \u201c5\u201d hours together in the car more wisely than jumping from an Uber to a line, into another line, waiting around a departure lounge – hoping that the flight takes off on time – and then getting back into another Uber when we land at McLaren airport\u2026<\/p>\n

Staff training is important.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On my list of the top \u201c3\u201d things that have helped the Paul Gough Physio Rooms to become so successful would be the time we have dedicated to investing in my company culture and excellence. <\/strong><\/p>\n

To be precise – 3 hours every week. <\/strong><\/p>\n

3 hours of relentlessly pursuing growth and learning so that my staff are never falling behind\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026because every week your staff don\u2019t, they do! (Fall behind.)<\/p>\n

Now when I tell people just how much time we put aside to train staff, many \u00a0\u201cGASP\u201d with disbelief that I would do such a thing and ask how it\u2019s even possible (profitable) to do so.<\/p>\n

My answer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It\u2019s NOT possible to NOT do it <\/strong>
\nand still expect to be successful”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One thing I\u2019ve learned about running my own business – and now helping others all over the world – is that once you get to a certain level in business, as much money is lost by your staff as it is actually made.<\/p>\n

Not \u201clost\u201d as in someone forgot to call a new referral\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026but the significant difference between what the patient MIGHT have given you VS what they actually did give you.<\/p>\n

See, it\u2019s the little things that make the difference\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Like telling a patient that \u201cyou take patients with Anthem Blue Cross – but you don\u2019t directly bill Anthem Blue Cross\u201d<\/em> that keeps them on the phone long enough to show them the benefits of your service\u2026<\/p>\n

(If you\u2019re Out Of Network)\u2026<\/p>\n

OR,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Asking \u201c3\u201d of the right questions, in the right order, BEFORE a patient agrees to become a patient that completely changes the way they feel about you, meaning they\u2019re happy to comply and spend more with you.<\/p>\n

OR,<\/p>\n

Having a therapist trained to take the time to actually find out why the patient is REALLY there in the first place – and not lazily assume that it\u2019s \u201cjust\u201d to ease low-back pain.<\/p>\n

Tip:<\/strong> they are rarely ever there to just \u201cease back pain\u201d\u2026 it\u2019s always something much deeper than that and most PT\u2019s who experience push back at their Eval\u2019 simply haven\u2019t addressed it.<\/p>\n

Of course\u2026<\/p>\n

Those same PT\u2019s will have you believe that \u201cthe patient just didn\u2019t want to pay\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n

(Really???)<\/p>\n

And so it goes on\u2026<\/p>\n

The more training that we do, the more successful we get.<\/p>\n

Just a thought\u2026<\/p>\n

But as 1000\u2019s of PT\u2019s head to the APTA conference today I\u2019m 100% certain that the conversations in and around the event will be about how difficult the situation is for PT\u2019s right now\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026and how \u201csomething needs to be done, by someone\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n

Maybe that something is to spend more time on learning how to help people to make better decisions about their health – and using time wisely to set your self apart from everyone else??<\/p>\n

Just another thought.<\/p>\n
